This experimental synthesizer invites you to explore evolving sonic patterns through an interactive approach to chaotic synthesis.

Rather than adding unpredictability through circuit bending, the Blippoo Box is "bent by design." Complex behavior is built into the instrument. Small control changes can lead to a new sonic state, making each session a conversation between performer and synthesizer.

Chaotic Synthesis and Performance

Original Rob Hordijk design: the Legacy version of the Blippoo Box.

Banana-jack configuration: choose this listing for the banana-jack version rather than the 1/4-inch-jack version.

Deterministic chaos: nonlinear rules create behavior that is sensitive to small changes, rather than simply random.

Evolving patterns: balanced states, or attractors, produce recognizable sonic characteristics without perfect repetition.

Hands-on improvisation: guide, influence and respond to the instrument as its sound develops.

Exploring Well-Tempered Chaos

The Blippoo Box seeks balanced states that can sustain a stable-sounding pattern. A slight knob adjustment can cross a threshold and move the system into a different state. Its behavior follows fixed, nonlinear rules, but sensitivity to initial conditions makes its long-term development difficult to predict.

Instead of dictating every detail, you learn the instrument's tendencies and interact with them. That balance of recognizable patterns and unexpected transitions is central to the Blippoo Box's character.

Compare Blippoo Box Versions

Prefer different connections?
